So what did my boyfriend get me for my birthday? A cat tree. Yep. Don't worry, I'm not upset because I don't really care about birthday gifts. It is one of the funniest gifts I've received from him to date, however.
For a few months I've debated whether I wanted to return the cat tree or just put it together. I'm horrible at returning things and finally just decided to put the thing together. It's a small cat tree and was easy enough to put together. Except for the scratching board ramp that goes in the front. There was no way that thing would screw on to where it was intended to go so I just decided to forget about it.
After putting it together, I wanted to show it to Callie. I picked her up and proceeded to try and put her inside. Well, she wasn't having any of that. The hidey hole compartment is definitely not made for big cats. In fact, it seems more like a cat tree for kittens.
This is as far as I go, lady. |
Now Callie's (er, my?) cat tree sits empty and unused. She doesn't even care to sit on top of the hidey hole. Callie and I have to figure out what to do with this thing now. I would say this is the perfect excuse I need to adopt a kitten. Maybe I can give my boyfriend one for Christmas. ;) (Even though the kitten would really be for me.)
Most likely, I'll end up taking our tiny cat tree birthday gift over to the shelter. I know there are probably lots of kittens there that could put it to good use.
My human's boyfriend has gotten her some strange gifts, but never a cat tree! More's the pity.
ReplyDeleteDid you put any catnip on it? Or try putting it near her favorite window or somewhere that she likes? Our cats always loved their perches so can't figure it out. I think it was a nice thought to give something to you for your cat. But, I know a shelter would love it too. Sandra & Dolly
ReplyDeleteIt's near the window, so I'm surprised she doesn't want to at least sit on top of it. It is really small though and she can't fit inside, so I don't see much use for it right now.
DeleteBOL Miss Ann! We all get those kinds of gifts every now and again. It was the thought that counts even if the cat tree is too small. I think donating it to the shelter so those kitties could have a place to play would be a wonderful thing to do.

Lol - it was pretty funny :)
DeleteWe WISH Mommy's boyfriend would give her a cat tree!
ReplyDeleteMOL! It must be every cat's dream for their mommy's to have boyfriends like that.
DeleteI agree about putting catnip on it (I never, ever try to get Cody to use anything that just arrives, or that I put together), he has to find it on his own.......often it will take weeks, but so be it.
ReplyDeleteAs for the cat tree, you could donate it to a local shelter (I am sure they would appreciate it).......or...ship it to Marg of Marg's Animals....I am sure she would appreciate it and so would her kitties. If you don't want to ship it I would definitely donate it to a local shelter. My step daughter is a manager of a local shelter here and I always give her things that Cody isn't using.

I may try some catnip, but she still doesn't fit inside. That's as much as she fits in the 2nd photo =/. I like your suggestions! I wish I had the original box that it came in still.
DeleteTW’s cat Nicky used to get her cat stuff for her birthday and Christmas. MOL! Like others said put catnip on it—catnip spray is good—or just let her discover it on her own. It is a ArmaKat? Most of their trees are too small for grown cats. If a cat has never had a cat tree, they take some time to get used to it being for them.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what brand it is. I am pretty sure it came from Walmart though. This thing is definitely way too small.
DeleteWe say get a kitten! It sure is an odd gift...maybe it was a hint gift and he is getting you the kitten to match the scratching post for Christmas???
ReplyDeleteLol - I think he just didn't know what to get me. And he was just talking about how I spoil the cat!
DeleteWe would likely be all over that one! Yes to the catnip spread!!!
ReplyDeleteThat special gift could have a wonderful second life in a shelter. Purrs
ReplyDeleteHahaha!! I would opt for the kitten option!! Keep us posted! ;)
ReplyDeletecallie.....de ex boy friend oh de food serviss gurl getted her a HAMMER one yeer......for VALENTINEZ day......noe...her did knot use de hammer on him, but ...........~~~~~~~ we say keep de tree and get a kitteh aza pal for ewe ♥♥♥
ReplyDeleteThat sounds odd! MOL
DeleteAaaaaaw Well at least hims was thinkin' 'bout sumfin' you liked. MOL Most of da cat trees sold commercially dat you put togevver from a box are made fur kittens or cats less than 7 pounds. It may be kinda wobbly and so she dusn't wanna sit on it fur dat reason. Good luck tho' we fink da kitten fur Christmas wuld be a pawsum gift. Mommy dusn't really get too many gifts fur her so she kuldn't speak to this post. Oh and she dusn't have a man. :(
ReplyDeleteLuv ya'

Well, I'll have to look for a better cat tree one of these days. I don't get many gifts either. It's the thought that counts :) he knows I like my kitty. (And he likes her too.)
DeleteMaybe if you put some catnip on it, Callie might be more attracted to it. Or like you say, the kittens at the shelter would love it. :)
ReplyDeleteMOL! Well, at least Callie gave it a try. You're right ... we bet the shelter kittens will love it!
ReplyDeleteMaybe it was your boyfriend's subtle way of telling you he wants a kitten for HIS birthday. :)
ReplyDeleteIts the thought that counts. :-) Maybe its too small? Your cat wants a bigger one? :-)
ReplyDeleteYep! The caption to her photo is quite literal. That is really as far as she goes :)
DeleteHa ha, that must be why my hubby and I don't really get each other gifts anymore...it's impossible to know what to get. We might as well just get stuff for the pets!
