Shiner is my active senior dog. She's a healthy 12 year old senior dog that still acts like a puppy often. Many people are surprised to hear that she's 12 years old. I keep Shiner lean and in good shape by playing and walking with her outside, going on small "adventures" when we can, and feeding her proper portions of healthy food.
For the past few weeks, Shiner has been eating a new food that we've been excited to try - Pinnacle® Pet Food. I've been feeding her the Grain Free Duck & Sweet Potato formula. If you missed our introduction to Pinnacle, you can read it here.
I wanted to try this food for a variety of reasons, but I specifically chose duck because it's a protein that she hasn't eaten before and have heard it's good for dogs with allergies. She handled the switch to this food with no problems at all.
Shiner gets itchy skin sometimes, so I like to feed her grain free LID food. LID stands for "limited ingredient diet". There have been times when she'll be constantly licking her paws or belly. Fortunately for us, she hasn't experienced any of this while eating her Pinnacle dog food. I'm very happy with how her skin is doing right now. Her fur looks nice and she has no hair loss.
While I keep a close eye on Shiner's diet for her allergies, I also like to make sure she eats good food that can fuel her active senior dog status. It's true that Shiner enjoys a good nap on the couch as much as any other dog might, but she also loves to run and play. She always surprises me with what she's able to do too.
For being a 12 year old senior dog, Shiner has excellent swimming skills. She can even swim and dive underwater. She loves zooming super fast in the field after her toys and sticks. She's so fast, not even her little humans (or myself) can catch her most of the time! She is always eager to get up and go when I get her leash out.
And for the past few weeks that Shiner has been eating her Pinnacle Grain Free Duck & Sweet Potato dog food, she's been active, happy, and playful. I hope to keep her as active as possible for as long as possible and Pinnacle is helping us to achieve this.

ReplyDeleteI am glad that Shiner is enjoying this food. Having itchy skin is terrible. We have had good luck with the trout and sweet potato recipe for Nelly.
