National Mutt Day is about honoring our furry mixed breed friends and spreading the word that they make great pets. Not having a pedigree doesn't make them any less lovable. After all, it's just a piece of paper right?
In fact, mutts can perform the same tasks that many purebred dogs can do. They are just as intelligent and make good service dogs, therapy dogs, drug and bomb sniffing dogs, and they are great at being your average household pet.
And if you're looking for a dog that's unique and unlike any other dog, Mutts are perfect. They come in all sizes, shapes, colors, fur textures, and patterns.
I have heard many times that mutts have less health problems than purebred dogs. According to DogTime, the reason mutts are considered healthier is because they have a bigger gene pool to draw from. So essentially, producing a mixed breed dog is the complete opposite of inbreeding.
To all of our mutt friends out there, here's to a very HAPPY National Mutt Day! And if you don't have a mutt yet, consider adopting one from your local animal shelter!
If you have a mutt, we'd love to hear about them. Share your mutt in the comments!
Nothing is much better than true mutt love!

ReplyDeleteMom's first dog Trine was a mutt from the Humane Society, a 100 lb Black Lab, Newfie mix. I think she was some kind of a saint the way everyone talks about her. Mom has no issues with mutts, even though right now we are all purebreds.
ReplyDeleteHow special that they get a day of celebration TWICE a year! We are looking at adding a woofie into our family, and a mutt it will be. Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to meet him or her!
DeleteHappy Mutters Day to all of the mutts out there! ♥ I don't have a mutt, but I've never met one that I didn't love!

ReplyDeleteUh-oh, our mutt Luke is not going to be happy with me for forgetting this day! Thank goodness it happens twice a year, I'll have to make up for it in December!
ReplyDeleteOur first two dogs were mutts, then we ended up with purebreds, only one was intentionally, it just happened that way. We were happy to get another mutt when we got Luke!
Well, of course I'm all about mutts! I love mixed-breed dogs because they are so unique.
ReplyDeleteHappy Mutt Day!!
ReplyDeleteI adore all three of my mutts!
ReplyDeleteYep, mutt and DSH cats are the best although humans should get their pets spayed.
ReplyDeleteI love DSH cats too. And yes they should get spayed and neutered!
DeleteI love mutts! Most of the dogs in my life were mutts. The most recent mutt was Sephi. Half Chow and a mixture of Lab, Shepherd, and who-knows-what-else. The current mutt is Pierson. He's most likely half Border Collie and half Australian Shepherd.
ReplyDeleteSorry I missed this day. We love our mutt and wouldn't trade her for anything.
ReplyDeleteI'm a "Proud Doodle - Mutt Momma!"
ReplyDeleteWe had a couple of mixed breeds from the shelter when I was younger. Awesome dogs
